Ye Qiu chose not the ordinary cakes that are readily available for takeout at other shops, but rather the trendy ones that are freshly made and require waiting on-site.
Of course, Ye Qiu wasn’t foolish enough to queue like everyone else. He just needed to walk into the shop, confirm the product he wanted to buy, sit on the nearby couch, and then… let his assistant wait in line to help him purchase it.
Shortly after Ye Qiu made his arrangements, a man in a white suit sat down in front of him. “Mr. Ye, how can you be so leisurely? Your partner has just been discharged from the hospital, yet you still have time to queue for cake here.”
“Buying a long-awaited cake for a loved one is what a good partner should do,” Ye Qiu replied, looking at the man across from him.
To be fair, Jian Lexin truly deserved his title as the most popular psychotherapist in the capital. Not only did he have an impressive educational background, but his physical appearance also contributed to his appeal. He had a good figure and demeanor, his looks though not as superior as Ye Qiu’s, were still quite handsome. Plus, his deliberately trained warm smile fit perfectly with what many people fantasized about.
However, no matter how impeccable one’s conditions may be, being overly cunning and meddling in other people’s relationships is bound to make one less likable.
One can easily slip up when they are just about to succeed; Ye Qiu was certain this person in front of him wouldn’t disappoint him.
When the waitress shyly served Jian Lexin coffee, she smiled; however, upon seeing Ye Qiu seated across from Jian, her expression suddenly went wide-eyed, almost causing the cup to wobble in her hands.
Jian Lexin feigned indifference and even kindly asked the waitress if she had burned herself. However, a fleeting expression of frustration in his eyes betrayed his jealousy.
Jian Lexin was gentle with the waitress, but far less friendly towards Ye Qiu. He scrutinized the man sitting across from him, a flash of envy and astonishment crossing his gaze.
No matter how much time passed, the man’s stunning looks were hard to forget. It was no wonder Gu Chen had begun pursuing him after just a few meetings — his heart felt a sting of jealousy.
If the other party were not such a dominant person, he wouldn’t mind extending some help, but right now he wanted nothing more than to tear that face apart. The presence of this person constantly reminded him that no matter how hard he tried, it was futile; all it took was a handsome exterior to easily gain what he had, completely forgetting that the Gu family was not as powerful as it is now before Ye Qiu took charge.
“Mr. Ye, you truly are a busy person. It’s quite rare to meet you nowadays,” Jian Lexin couldn’t help but mock. “I wonder if Mr. Ye remembers me?”
Ye Qiu smiled and replied, “Mr. Jian, you are my lover’s psychotherapist. Next time you wish to see me, just make an appointment through my assistant. Is there something you need?”
“I heard Gu Chen has woken up,” Jian Lexin shifted to the main issue, his expression turning serious. “I want to see him.”
Ye Qiu expected some elaborate, concerned reason behind Jian’s request, but was caught off guard by his straightforwardness. He chuckled lightly, “Mr. Jian is my lover’s psychotherapist, so it shouldn’t be difficult to see him, right?”
Jian Lexin concealed the agitation that Ye Qiu’s laughter invoked in him, sneering, “Don’t think I didn’t see through your little games. If you refuse our meeting, I will…”
“How about this weekend?” Ye Qiu interrupted.
Jian Lexin took a deep breath, feeling as if he had struck cotton with his punch, “You said that yourself. Don’t try to pull any tricks.”
“Of course,” Ye Qiu chuckled.
His dismissal was so casual that it felt like he didn’t regard Jian Lexin at all. Jian had gone out of his way to prepare and rehearse just for this meeting, yet this person took no notice of his efforts!
Jian Lexin set down his coffee cup with too much force, splashing some of the liquid, signaling his poor mood.
Across from him, Ye Qiu wore a smile, his mind racing.
Ye Qiu suspected that Gu Chen’s issues were somehow connected to Jian Lexin. However, with the current evidence, he couldn’t prove that this person was the perpetrator.
Jian Lexin’s face turned cold; disregarding his external image, he hastily left.
Meanwhile, Gu Chen nervously awaited updates on his phone, anxious until he received confirmation that Ye Qiu had bought the cake, still unsure if Jian Lexin had managed to meet him.

Chapter 61: The Real World
“Is it good?” Ye Qiu presented Gu Chen with the fruit of his assistant’s two-hour wait in line.
Gu Chen took a small bite of the exquisite little cake with a fork, his gaze revealing a hint of guilt as he looked up at Ye Qiu.
He had only used the excuse of the cake being difficult to buy, yet unexpectedly, this person really brought it back. Remembering the outrageous things he had done, Gu Chen nodded in agreement, his mind racing with how to ask the right questions without seeming too abrupt.
“You…”
“By the way,”
Both Gu Chen and Ye Qiu spoke at the same time.
“You go first.” The courage Gu Chen had just mustered was instantly interrupted.
Ye Qiu smiled, “I just ran into Jian Lexin on the way here. He really wants to see you. What do you think?”
“Do you want us to meet?” Gu Chen’s eyes lit up for a moment before hesitating, gripping his fork tightly.
From his understanding, Ye Qiu would probably prefer him not to meet the outside world.
Testing him?
“As long as you’re willing, it’s certainly fine.” Ye Qiu smiled. “A proper interaction with the outside world would benefit your condition.”
Besides, it was also time to reel in the net.
Gu Chen let out a sigh of relief, biting his lip, “Then how about this weekend?”
Thinking of the plan to expose this person’s true colors, the cake in his hand suddenly tasted bitter.
“It’s also time to let others know you’re awake,” Ye Qiu nodded.
As long as Gu Chen could meet with Jian Lexin, it didn’t matter to him how many people were around; having a crowd would conveniently allow him to communicate privately with Jian Lexin. Gu Chen sighed as he stabbed at the cake with his fork — the popular item recommended online was extraordinarily hard to swallow, utterly failing to live up to its name.
